Es sábado. Son las nueve de la mañana. Marta sale de casa con su lista de la compra.
It is Saturday. It is nine in the morning. Marta leaves home with her shopping list.
Va al mercado del barrio. Quiere comprar tomates, queso y pan.
She goes to the neighborhood market. She wants to buy tomatoes, cheese, and bread.
Cuando llega al mercado, busca la lista en su bolso. No la encuentra.
When she arrives at the market, she looks for the list in her bag. She cannot find it.
— ¡Otra vez no! — dice Marta.
— Not again! — says Marta.
El verdulero la mira y sonríe.
The greengrocer looks at her and smiles.
— ¿Lista perdida?
— Sí. Como todos los sábados.
— Lost the list?
— Yes. Like every Saturday.
Marta piensa. ¿Qué hay en la lista? Recuerda los tomates. Recuerda el pan. ¿Y después?
Marta thinks. What is on the list? She remembers the tomatoes. She remembers the bread. And after that?
Compra los tomates. Compra el pan. Compra también una sandía, porque hace calor.
She buys the tomatoes. She buys the bread. She also buys a watermelon, because it is hot.
En la pescadería, ve unas gambas y las compra. En la lista no hay gambas, pero a Marta le gustan mucho.
At the fish shop, she sees some prawns and buys them. The list does not have prawns, but Marta likes them a lot.
Vuelve a casa. Pone la compra en la cocina. Y entonces ve la lista. Está en la mesa, debajo del periódico.
She returns home. She puts the shopping in the kitchen. And then she sees the list. It is on the table, under the newspaper.
Lee la lista en voz alta:
She reads the list out loud:
— Tomates, sí. Pan, sí. Queso. ¡Ay, el queso!
— Tomatoes, yes. Bread, yes. Cheese. Oh no, the cheese!
Marta sonríe. Coge el bolso y vuelve al mercado.
Marta smiles. She takes her bag and returns to the market.
— Otra vez por aquí — dice el verdulero.
— Otra vez.
— Here again — says the greengrocer.
— Again.
